Sugaring Hair Removal FAQs
-
Sugaring is an ancient technique that only uses three ingredients: lemon, sugar and water. This all natural form of hair removal contains no chemicals or resin making it ideal for pregnant ladies and even the most sensitive client. Using a gloved hand, the sugar paste is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth and removed in the natural direction of hair growth resulting in less in grown hairs & irritation. It's luke warm temperature will NEVER take off live skin cells.

With the many different types of hair removal techniques available you may wonder why sugaring?
Sugaring is one of the safest and truly natural methods of hair removal. Its organic and non toxic solution will give you longer lasting results without the irritation, redness and itchiness so common with traditional waxing or threading.
-
*Hair must be at least ¼ inch long or long enough to grip between your fingers.
*Avoid waxing or shaving 3-4 weeks before your appointment.
*Skin should be clean and dry. Avoid using any powders, sprays, or lotions prior to your sugaring treatment.
*If this is your first time getting sugaring done, allow enough time after your treatment should redness or irritation occur for your skin to calm. Sugaring is all natural, and the most gentle from of hair removal, but there is always a possibility that certain areas can be sensitive and each person may have a different histamine response.
*Wearing make up for any face sugaring is not recommended because the sugar paste will not adhere to anything but clean bare skin.
*For Brazilians- using a gentle sugar scrub a day before your appointment will loosen any dead skin that might be clogging the hair follicle. Arrive showered or use personal wipes PRIOR to your arrival. Using feminine toiletries during your menstrual cycle is fine to use as long as the string is cut short.
*Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to remove. If you are getting a bikini or Brazilian sugaring it would be wise to wear a dress or skirt over a romper or tight fitted pants. Clean cotton underwear is appropriate to bring after your appointment since that area has been freshly exfoliated and cleansed. For males, an extra clean cotton shirt is recommended to bring after a chest or back sugaring to wear.

1. Stay out of the sun.
2. Avoid swimming.
3. Be careful not to over exfoliate. Sugaring takes off dead skin cells so over exfoliating can irritate the skin. Avoid exfoliating acids or topicals for the first few days. A light scrub or exfoliating serum 2 days after your appointment is recommended in all areas sugared except the face to prevent ingrown hairs (I love Ke Ko's coconut sugar scub)
4. Avoid the sauna and hot yoga
5. Wait a few days before getting a spray tan.
6. Avoid lotions, soaps or toiletry items with artificial fragrances or color.
7. No sexy time- Excessive chaffing from friction on delicate areas like the bikini and Brazilian area can lead to discomfort. Wait at least 2 days.
8. Opt for loose clothing.
9. Avoid intense workouts

There are two options when this happens. First you can either cancel or reschedule within the 24 hour notice terms and conditions.
Secondly, you may keep the appointment but use the necessary feminine hygiene products upon arrival. I always recommend using the proper sized sanitary tampon to prevent any leakage during your appointment and safely cutting the string shorter to prevent any removal mishaps.

Sugaring is a “work in progress”, not a quick fix. So the first time, you might notice a few extra hairs that are too short to be removed, or notice a small amount of growth the first couple of weeks. This is simply due to the different growth cycles and completely normal at first. After a few regular appointments (every 28 day), your hair will get on the same cycle, resulting in a smooth wax every time you visit!
You will start noticing weaker, finer hair growth!

I recommend sugaring every 28 days or 4 weeks. This allows the hair to grow to a recommended length of ¼ inch and takes into account that each hair follicle is on its own growth cycle. Sugaring more frequently may not give all of your hair sufficient time to grow out—perpetuating the cycle to sugar more frequently. You may notice a small amount of regrowth after about a week. It can take 2 to 3 treatments to get on a hair growth cycle that gives the best results. With repeated sugaring, unwanted hair grows back finer and sparser and your skin will be smooth for weeks.

Sugaring is 50-75 percent less painful than regular waxing. Since the sugar doesn't adhere to live skin cells it doesn't pull your skin. If you feel you are sensitive to pain, we recommend taking a mild painkiller such as Ibuprofen 30 minutes prior to your appointment. Always avoid caffeine before! Stimulants increase sensitivity. Pregnancy can also increase sensitivity. Hydration and sleep is also important. Nerve sensitivity can come from stress and fatigue. Also, if you are feeling under the weather, you ask that you do reschedule since the on set of a cold will make your service that much more sensitive.
The first time is the worst time.. after that, you'll be sugaring like a pro!

Body Sugaring hair removal can lead to permanency. Because sugaring lubricates the follicle and pulls the hair in the direction of growth, the hair comes out complete, with root and sheath. When the hair is pulled out regularly, in the early Anagen stage, over time the blood supply decreases and the hair becomes fine or does not regrow at all.
It is important not to shave in between sugaring sessions. Shaving in between your sessions leads to mixed results. The most important thing to remember if you want to see a reduction in your hair growth is to remain consistent! Consistency is the MAJOR key to seeing a reduction in growth. It takes time, but as long as you stick with it you will see the results you are seeking. In my experience I have 2 clients who have been consistent with sugaring over the years and now only come to visit twice every year to sugar the handful of hairs they have on their bikini area.
